How can a NAWIC membership benefit you, the employer?

By Sharing Knowledge and Ideas
Through membership in NAWIC, your employee will increase her knowledge of the industry by networking with other members employed in the construction industry.
Monthly chapter meetings, regional conferences and national conventions provide opportunities to build a strong communication network. This helps develop and broaden valuable business contacts for your firm through your employee.
More than 30 associations work with NAWIC to share resources, aggressive problem resolutions, and safety training and practices. Together, we create a more positive image of the industry in general, as well as the role of women in the nontraditional industry of construction.
Through Construction Education
As a NAWIC member, your employee can participate in the educational programs developed by the NAWIC Education Foundation.
Courses in the fundamentals of construction terminology, processes, procedures and technology provide a member with a strong, thorough overview of the industry.
Other courses include topics such as drawings, specifications, estimating and scheduling.
The Foundation also offers three certification programs recognizing participants as Certified Construction Associates (CCA), Construction Document Specialists (CDS) and Construction Industry Technicians (CIT).
An important focus of the Foundation is to concentrate on kindergarten through 12th grade education processes for all young people, with a primary emphasis on exposing children to career opportunities available in construction.
More than 6,000 students participate in the Foundation's award-winning National Block-Kids contest each year.
The NAWIC Founders' Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships each year to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in construction-related fields with at least one year of course study remaining.
By Serving the Construction Industry
Many NAWIC chapters establish scholarships and financial awards for students in their local areas who are pursuing degrees in various fields of construction.
NAWIC chapters initiate and complete construction projects that benefit the industry and the community for such organizations as Habitat for Humanity International, Rebuilding Together and other local community-building entities.
Chapter members have built playhouses, renovated public service buildings and conducted construction safety workshops. Chapters and regions have also united to create and participate in flood and disaster relief programs.
Local NAWIC projects may benefit your company directly or indirectly, but most importantly, they can involve you and your employee as you work together on behalf of the industry.
As an employer, your support of NAWIC as a sponsor or by enrolling your employees as chapter corporate members will bring your company recognition as a supporter of women in the nontraditional field of construction.
Participating in Career Recruitment
NAWIC chapters conduct Career Days in local schools and communities to encourage young men and women to enter the world of construction.
Many chapters participate in job fairs to recruit women who are interested in changing careers and to provide information about educational and training requirements for both traditional and nontraditional construction opportunities.
Through Liaisons and Partnering Agreements
In 1993, NAWIC signed its first partnering agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers to promote and enhance the role of women in the construction industry.
In 1997, NAWIC signed a partnering agreement with the National Center for Construction Education and Research. The agreement allows NAWIC and NCCER to work together in promoting careers in construction to future generations of students.
NAWIC's partnering agreement with Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment, signed in 2004, helps further advocacy, education and networking opportunities for both organizations.
